Eastern Kentucky University's Environmental Health Science B.S. program is accredited by the National Environmental Health and Protection Accreditation Council.

It is the only school in Kentucky still accredited and one of only 24 nationally. Accreditation by this Council is stringent and in being so is assurance that a program meets all national standards for excellence. All Environmental Health programs must be reaccredited every six years.

Benefits of Accreditation

Accreditation indicates an academic program has been found to have the curriculum, faculty, facilities, and institutional support necessary to provide quality environmental health science and protection education. Only students from accredited programs are eligible to participate in the Commission Officer Student Extern Training Program (COSTEP) of the U.S. Public Health Service. Another benefit of graduating from an accredited program is that they have priority in USPHS hiring practices. Many states recognize graduation from an accredited program as attaining a specific standard needed to register environmental health specialists or sanitarians.
